Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Veterinary Education and Research (RIVER) is fully funded by the Government of Puducherry and affiliated to the Pondicherry University and established as per VCI regulations. Since its inception in 1994, the institute has made spectacular progress owing to the excellent support extended by the Government of Puducherry.
All the academic departments have been established as per the mandatory stipulations of the Veterinary Council of India (VCI) and the current faculty strength is 56. The faculty are drawn from reputed colleges and institutions of the country. The Institute offers B.V.Sc. & AH, M.V.Sc. in 13 disciplines and Ph.D. in 5 disciplines. Further M.V.Sc. in three more disciplines will be commenced during the next academic year. In recognition of its dedicated services in the area of veterinary education and research, the UGC has awarded 2(f) and 12(B) status and NAAC has awarded B+ grade to this institute. For the excellent work carried out during the year 2022, the prestigious Chief Minister’s award for Excellence in Public Administration was awarded to this institute on Aug. 15, 2023.
